Description: Large green coloured foliage, this is the most common basil. Flowers are small, white and tubular.
Cultivation: Moist, well drained soil. Protect from wind, does not tolerate cold. Can be planted in containers.
Parts Used: Leaves
Harvest: Pick leaves and young shoots fresh throughout the summer. Leaves may be dried or frozen for use out of season.
Culinary: Uses are the same as sweet basil, the flavour is the same. Used extensively in Italian and Mediterranean dishes. Use fresh leaves in pesto, tomato salads, sauces, and pizza toppings. Also used with meats, fish, and chicken dishes.
*Although not certified organic, it is grown naturally with no pesticides or herbicides.
